Multi-arc ion plating is a method of directly evaporating metal on a solid cathode target material using an arc discharge method. The evaporated material is the ions of the cathode material emitted from the bright point of the cathode arc, thereby depositing a thin film on the surface of the substrate.

Advantages of Multi-arc Ion Plating

(1) Plasma is generated directly from the cathode without the need for a molten pool. The cathode target can be arranged in any direction according to the shape of the workpiece, which greatly simplifies the fixture.

(2) The incident particle energy is high, the film has high density, good strength and durability, and good adhesion strength.

(3) The ionization rate is high, generally reaching 60%~80%.

(4) From the application point of view, its outstanding advantage is the fast evaporation rate.
